How are we doing?

Creating a new landscape takes time and sensitivity. To date the creation of the Forest has been under way for a little over a decade. However, nearly 8 million trees have already been planted, making green over 6,000 hectares of derelict coalfield land and mineral workings and through converting farmland to woods. Other wildlife habitats are also being created or brought back into proper management.

Annually, the progress of The National Forest is charted in the Annual Report

The National Forest "Sustainable Development" report 2007 documented the impact of The National Forest against key national indicators. It shows the breadth of achievement in social and economic terms as well as the environmental.

This report was updated in 2011.
