Farmland & new forest growth within The National Forest

Creating a new landscape takes time and sensitivity. To date the creation of the Forest has been under way for a little over a decade. However, more than 8 million trees have already been planted, making green over 6,700 hectares (16,500 acres) of derelict coalfield land and mineral workings and through converting farmland to woods. Other wildlife habitats are also being created or brought back into proper management.

The National Forest "Sustainable Development" report documents the impact of The National Forest against key national indicators. It shows the breadth of achievement in social and economic terms as well as the environmental.

Annually, the progress of The National Forest is charted in the Annual Report
