Going Bats
Bats love trees, so the creation of so much new woodland in and around the Forest is proving to be a real boon.
To make bats feel at home in new woodlands hundreds of bat roosting boxes have been put up around the Forest's 200 square miles. The boxes give the nocturnal animals somewhere safe to shelter during the hours of daylight.
In recent months new bat boxes have gone up at a number of new woodland sites, including 30 at the Dunstall Hall estate in East Staffordshire, where the National Forest Company is backing the creation of 92 hectares (227 acres) of woods and parkland.
