Snibston is...Extra Ordinary
The gallery starts with a message about what life would be like without technology and shows the visitor how much we rely all on it. It then goes on to show a timeline of the most important inventions in history. Each of the 17 interactive exhibits demonstrates a different technology and explains how it is used. To help visitors get to grips with the technological wizardry on show, they can try lifting a full size red mini off the ground using electromagnetism, exercise their human ingenuity to beat the time and motion perfection of robotics, generate electricity or programme a computer. At the end of their visit they can post their favourite device alongside other visitors’ choices at the voting station. The gallery’s curator, Brian Kennedy, said; “The aim of the Extra Ordinary gallery is to promote awareness of how every aspect of our lives is affected by and indeed made possible by technology. By adding a voting element we hope that people will really think about what they come across in their lives and have fun while they do so.” Vote now to save Henry! In preparation for Extra Ordinary, the best bits of the old gallery, Science Alive, have been moved into the main exhibition hall. This is only a temporary home and unfortunately not all of them can stay once Extra Ordinary is opened. Snibston Discovery Park wants you to help decide what to keep by voting for your favourite. Will you choose to rescue Henry and his bike, or would you like to see the hot air balloon floating for a few more years? Pick up a voting card from around the galleries or vote online at www.snibston.com and choose what to save from oblivion! |
