Children Meet over Trees

The last corner of a new woodland near Ravenstone was planted on Valentine's Day by children of Woodstone Community Primary School. The school was formed when Ravenstone Primary School and Snibston Primary School amalgamated in the New Year. The new school building however is yet to be built and until a site can be found the schools continue to occupy the old sites.
"The planting event has proved to be the ideal opportunity for children from both schools to meet for the first time," said Mrs Brown, a teacher at the school. "The School is proud of its position at the heart of The National Forest, and this was reflected when its new name was chosen." The other half of the name ('stone') was derived from the second half of each of the original school names.
John Bennion, who was successful in his bid to enter 16 hectares land into The National Forest Tender Scheme last year, said that the morning was poignant in many ways. "I was thrilled when the school said that they would like to take part in planting the wood," explained John. "I used to go to Ravenstone School when I was a boy, and my own children attended Snibston Primary School. 2003 marks the start of life for a new school and a new wood."
National Forest Company staff welcomed the children to the site and this was followed by help with tree planting from British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
