National Bike Week Arrives in The National Forest

Tuesday, 2nd June 2009

From 13 – 21 June, whether you’re a lean, mean road cyclist, a novice wanting to get fit or a youngster keen to have more fun on your bike, National Bike Week in The National Forest has something for everyone.

For women eager to try off-road biking, there’s a ride around Calke Park and Foremark Reservoir; for the over 50s getting back into the saddle, there’s a gentle ride around Rosliston Forestry Centre; kids can get along to Conkers for a fun riding and skills session; or if 80 miles is your thing, join a trip from the Forest to the Peak District, and back again.

The National Forest Company has brought together the programme of events in association with local cycling and triathlon clubs.  Alan Leather, Funding & Partnerships Officer for the National Forest Company, said: ‘The mix of rolling terrain, wooded landscapes and a growing number of off-road and surfaced trails makes the Forest a perfect area for cycling.  National Bike Week makes a brilliant focus for this first programme of events, and it should get us off to a flying start to offer an even more extensive programme next year.’
