Clubs Top Training Tips for National Forest 10K

Tuesday, 17th August 2010

The three clubs are organising the race which sets off from Conkers on Sunday September 19.

Race Director Alistair Chambers from Ivanhoe Runners said: “All three clubs are friendly and welcome new members.  We can give tips and advice for new runners or for those who are getting back into training.

“The 10K course is mostly flat and takes in almost every feature you can think of.  It should also be a quick course with the potential for very fast times!”

The clubs’ websites contain details on joining as well as entry forms for the race.

Entry forms are also available from the National Forest Company website which also contains information on attractions, activities, events and places to stay in and around The National Forest.

As well as the 10K, there will also be a mile-long fun run around the trails in Conkers grounds for children and families.

The event is being organised by members of the local running clubs in partnership with National Forest Company, South Derbyshire District Council, North West Leicestershire District Council and Conkers.

For those who are just starting out with running, beginners jogging sessions are taking place in both North West Leicestershire and South Derbyshire as part of the Run in England Scheme aimed at newcomers.

The groups in North West Leicestershire meet regularly at 9:30am on Mondays (Hermitage Leisure Centre-Whitwick), Tuesdays (Staunton Harold-Ashby) and on Thursdays (Sence Valley Forest Park- Ibstock).  There is also a Wednesday evening session here from 5:30pm.  Contact Andrew Harris 01530 454606 for further details.

South Derbyshire Groups are Etwall Leisure Centre - Tuesdays 6pm (Beginners) and 7pm (Advanced), Hilton Village Hall - Tuesdays 6.30pm, Melbourne (Bill Shone Leisure Centre) - Tuesdays, 8pm and from 8th September, Swadlincote (Green Bank Leisure Centre) - Wednesdays, 7pm.  Contact Lewis Adams on 01283 595772, or visit the website
