Good for Wood, Good For You: Promote Your Business at The National Forest Wood Fair

Thursday, 28th April 2011

If your business, passion or hobby is anything to do with wood, then the National Forest Wood Fair on August Bank Holiday Monday (29 August) is the place for you.

This will be the sixth annual National Forest Wood Fair and it attracts around 100 exhibitors and demonstrators. The number of return exhibitors is exceptionally high, and the fact that the show has kept its original focus on timber and wood industries and crafts is one of the main reasons they rate the event so highly.

Show organiser Nick Fell, Forestry Manager for Leicestershire County Council, said: ‘Exhibitors often comment that they like the show because the visitors are interested in the products, they ask questions about how things are made – and they buy things!’

The National Forest Wood Fair is held at Beacon Hill Country Park, beneath the craggy beacon rocks. The show regularly attracts over 5,000 visitors, from the Midlands and further afield. There is a programme of events throughout the day including lumberjack displays, chainsaw carving, a log to leg race in Bodgers’ Corner, horse logging, commercial forwarders, log splitters and wood chip machinery in action.  Exhibitors also include wood turners, wood carvers and furniture makers, all of them masters of their craft.

At the end of the day, a number of the items are donated for a charity auction in aid of Tree Aid.

The Food Field is a popular attraction, packed full of delicious locally-sourced food and drink.

The National Forest Wood Fair is a great day out for families, with loads of activities for children including stories and songs from the Wild Man of the Woods, the chance to make natural lotions and potions with the Potions Club, a climbing wall, eco-art and other crafty activities led by the rangers from Conkers Discovery Centre.

The National Forest Wood Fair is jointly organised by Leicestershire County Council and the National Forest Company.

Covered and open pitches are available for exhibitors and demonstrators who can add something extra to this established and popular show.  Contact Nick Fell on 0116 305 6920
