Short Break Deal for Runners and Supporters of The National Forest 10K

Wednesday, 15th June 2011

Both runners and those coming along to support friends and family in the National Forest 10K on Sunday 18 September can get a special discount at YHA National Forest.

Race organisers are encouraging runners and their supporters to ‘make a weekend of it’ by offering this one-off deal over the race weekend.

Erica Abbott, manager of YHA National Forest, said: “The 10K literally passes the hostel on the Ashby Woulds Heritage Trail and is five minutes walk from the starting line.  By encouraging runners and supporters to stay overnight, we want to showcase the great number of brilliant things to see and do in the area – such as the new National Forest Cycle Centre, Conkers, Snibston, Calke Abbey, Twycross Zoo and loads more!”

This new environmentally friendly hostel dispels any pre-conceptions of dusty dorms. It has a games room, Wi-fi and its bistro restaurant is open to both hostel residents and the general public. It does still have a self-catering kitchen for those who would prefer to prepare their pre-race pasta personally.

The hostel is offering a four-bed room for£45 per night (just £11.25 per person).Larger family rooms are available and all rooms are en-suite.  Families could book a three or five-bed room for£35 and £55 respectively.  To get this deal, race goers need to call YHA National Forest on 01283 229 662 and quote ‘10K Run’ when they book.

Runners can also stay in the luxury timber lodges at Rosliston Forestry Centre. Tucked away in young woodland at the heart of The National Forest, these fully-accessible lodges can sleep up to ten people.  Their location within the 154-acre woodland site of Rosliston Forestry Centre, with trails, cycle hire and other activities make it a fantastic training venue for teams.  For more information on the Forest Lodges visit the websitewww.roslistonforestlodges.co.uk

The National Forest 10K is organised by the National Forest Company, Conkers, South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire District Councils in partnership with the local running clubs Ivanhoe Runners, South Derbyshire Road Runners and Hermitage Harriers.  These friendly clubs welcome new members of all abilities.  As well as the advice and support the clubs can provide, there is the added incentive to join which is the new 10K team prize category.  The prize is a short break in the wonderful Forest Lodges, kindly donated by Rosliston Forestry Centre.
