In Training for The National Forest 10K

Thursday, 14th July 2011

With just two months to go until the National Forest 10K, which sets off from Conkers on Sunday September 18, competition for the top prize is hotting up!

Fitness instructors and club members at Champneys Springs Health Resort based near Measham within The National Forest have entered a team. Fitness Manager Debbie Porter said: “Our team have started training and we plan to give the local running clubs a run for their money.”

But the 10K is not just for experienced runners, it is a perfect introduction for beginners too.  Novice runner Liz Moore commented on the 2010 event: “I really enjoyed the race and it was a great atmosphere. This was the first race I had ever done and it has encouraged me incredibly.”

Members of the running clubs in The National Forest area involved in organising the event, Ivanhoe Runners, South Derbyshire Road Runners and Hermitage Harriers, are inviting new members to join and gain top training tips.

Andy Buck from the Hermitage Harriers said: “All three clubs are friendly and welcome new members.  We can give tips and advice for new runners or for those who are getting back into training.  The 10K course weaves through lovely scenery using off-road woodland trails and is mostly flat.”
