New Bank Holiday Break Launched for The National Forest Wood Fair

Tuesday, 19th June 2012

With the May bank holidays over and the Jubilee bunting barely a memory, it is time to look forward to the August bank holiday with a new Wood Fair Short Break.

The National Forest Wood Fair has teamed up with Leicester Shire Promotions and the friendly three-star Link Hotel from imago, to offer a fantastic short break over the August bank holiday weekend.

For just £99 two adults and two children can stay in this comfortable hotel and will get breakfast and a family ticket to the Wood Fair (to use either Sunday 26 or Monday 27 August).

The Wood Fair guarantees entertainment throughout the bank holiday weekend with awe-inspiring lumberjacks, exciting chainsaw carvers and some of the best craftspeople in the country. There will be live demonstrations of woodland crafts, ‘have a go’ woodworking activities, a charity auction, music and delicious local food. And there’s plenty for children to do - stories from the Wild Man of the woods, tree lifts, craft activities and the ever-popular climbing wall.

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicester Shire Promotions said: ‘The National Forest Wood Fair is a great example of the outdoors offer for visitors to Leicester and Leicestershire. This short break offer will enable people from outside of the city and county to make the most of the activities on offer at the Wood Fair and extend their stay to take in other great local attractions and events over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend.’

Paul Cooper from Link Hotel added: ‘We’re looking forward to welcoming new guests to the hotel to demonstrate the high quality facilities and activities that Leicestershire has to offer. We hope that the three star accommodation and luxury spa will provide visitors with a slice of luxury during their short break.’

All 94 bedrooms in the hotel are en-suite and guests are able to use the leisure and therapy centre within its nearby sister hotel, Burleigh Court. This includes a 15m swimming pool, whirlpool spa, sauna and steam room, a fitness suite and a wide choice of aromatherapy massages, beauty and body therapies. The hotel is conveniently located on the outskirts of Loughborough, half a mile from junction 23 of the M1 motorway.

The Wood Fair is organised by the National Forest Company and Leicestershire County Council. Sophie Churchill, Chief Executive of the National Forest Company, said: ‘We are delighted to work with Leicester Shire Promotions and the Link Hotel to launch this great value short break offer. The Wood Fair is a brilliant family day out but there is so much more to see and do across the area. This short break means that visitors can make a weekend of it and combine their visit with a trip to Conkers, Snibston, Calke Abbey, the National Memorial Arboretum or one of the other quality visitor attractions that we have here.’

The National Forest Wood Fair takes place in the stunning setting of Beacon Hill Country Park, which is owned and managed by Leicestershire County Council. With its craggy summit and fantastic views, it is just one of the many visitor attractions across the three counties that make up The National Forest. The country park lies within the ancient Forest of Charnwood and is close to the attractive village of Woodhouse Eaves, just five minutes drive from Junctions 22 or 23 of the M1.
