Giant Fox and Badger in National Forest Fun Run

Moira Fox and Ernest Badger, the Forest Dwellers from CONKERS, will be leading the pack on Sunday September 16that the National Forest Family Fun Run. This is open to children (and animal mascots) aged from 4 to 14 years old and will take place at 9:30am before the main race – The National Forest 10K -  sets off from CONKERS. 

The friendly six-foot creatures are only running for fun and will be ready at the podium to award the winning youngsters their medals after the race.

CONKERS Manager, Chris Sturdy, said: “All children love the Forest Dwellers and this will be great fun to watch. We will be giving every child that enters the fun run free entry into CONKERS for the day, provided they are with a full-paying adult.”

Girls and boys taking part in the mile-long fun run around the trails inConkerswill win gold, silver and bronze medals for first, second and third places. As well as the free entry to the award-winning attraction, all fun runners will get a goody bag. Children enter the fun run on the day of the race with the entries desk open from 8am until 9:15am. 

After the fun run prize medal presentation, the National Forest 10K will start at 10:15am.  The 6.21 mile scenic off-road route will take runners along the former railway, the Ashby Woulds Heritage Trail, to the young woodland of Donisthorpe Woodland Park.  It will follow part of the Ashby Canal, passing Moira Furnace to join the Conkers Circuit.  Cutting through mature and young woodland planted as part of The National Forest, and skirting around Albert Village Lake, the climax will be the fast downhill finish to CONKERS Discovery Centre.Runners need to enter the race online via www.runnersworld.co.uk/nf10k

The event is being organised by members of the local running clubsIvanhoe Runners, South Derbyshire Road Runners and Hermitage Harriers, in partnership with National Forest Company, South Derbyshire District Council, North West Leicestershire District Council and CONKERS.
