National Forest 10k Runners

Runners who have not yet entered the National Forest 10K, taking place on Sunday 16 September, had better get their skates on before the closing date of Thursday 13 September.

Race Director Andy Buck, said: “We have increased the field for this year’s event but places are expected to fill quickly in the two weeks before the closing date.  And we are not accepting entries on the day for the 10K.”

Runners need to enter online through

Before the 10K, there will be a mile-long fun run around the trails in CONKERS Discovery Centre grounds for children and families.  Entries for this will be on the day between 8am - 9:15am.

Local people are being urged to come out and support the runners.

Starting at CONKERS at 10:15am, the 10K (6.21 mile) scenic off-road route will take runners along the Ashby Woulds Heritage Trail, through Donisthorpe Woodland Park and beside the Ashby Canal to Moira Furnace.  It will join the Conkers Circuit, weaving through leafy Swainspark Wood and skirting around Albert Village Lake to a fast finish at CONKERS Discovery Centre.

All children who enter the fun run will get free entry to CONKERS for the day, provided they are with a full-paying adult, enabling families to enjoy hundreds of indoor interactive exhibits and great outdoor attractions, including ranger activities, adventure playground, barefoot walk, interactive floor, sculpture, woodland, nature trails, lakes and the Conkerchoo train ride.

The event is being organised by members of the local running clubs Ivanhoe Runners, South Derbyshire Road Runners and Hermitage Harriers, in partnership with National Forest Company, South Derbyshire District Council, North West Leicestershire District Council and CONKERS.  These friendly clubs welcome new members of all abilities.  Visit their websites for details on joining.
