Great British Bake Off Fever Hits The National Forest!

Friday, 20th September 2013

The National Forest Food & Drink Fair takes place at Rosliston Forestry Centre on Sunday 13 October, with baking competitions and a Farmers’ Market.

Budding bakers are invited to enter the Abracadabra “Bake Off” Competition for the best forest theme cupcake, plus a competition to create a ‘Signature Cake’ for The National Forest. The nation has Bakewell Tart and Dundee cake – now the hunt is on for a baker to create a Signature Cake for The National Forest!

Becky Brooks, speaking for Abracadbra, said: “At Abracadabra, we are delighted to bring the magic of baking to The National Forest and are looking forward to some creative entries – especially after all those episodes of the Great British Bake Off!”

The Farmers’ Market at the Food & Drink Fair will showcase food and drink producers from the National Forest and Beyond, and visitors will be able to purchase and sample cheese, chocolate, wine and other great food and drink. Everyone is invited to join the experts in the Marquee for cookery demonstrations.

The National Forest Company (NFC) is supporting the event. NFC Chief Executive Sophie Churchill said: “The National Forest Food & Drink Fair will show just what a marvellous range of local produce is available in The National Forest, and I can’t wait to see the ideas for the Forest cakes.”

Debbie Chesterman, Manager at Rosliston Forestry Centre, said: “We are really excited about hosting the event and look forward to sampling some of the fantastic food & drink that is on offer in The National Forest - this should be a great day out for all the family.”

Visitors will also be able to view an amazing edible collage depicting The National Forest logo. The collage will be made entirely from cupcakes with help from the children at Rosliston Primary and Pre-Schools.

Plus, if a little fruit and nut is what you fancy, people who live in The National Forest can register at the event for a young native fruit or nut tree to plant in their garden, the tree to be collected at the end of November when the tree planting season starts. More trees will mean even more forest produce growing in The National Forest!
