Distinguished Diggers Plant Trees for Wildlife

Mark Todd MP, Councillor Mike Lauro and Sophie Churchill, Chief Executive of the National Forest Company, got stuck in to plant trees on David Wilson Homes’ Castleton Park Development near Church Gresley recently.

They joined local residents to take part in a special community tree planting session marking the first steps in transforming a patch of land on the development into a wildlife haven.

The area stretches for a total of six acres and is already home to ancient woodland and a wetland area. It has been identified as an important nature area and as a habitat for many protected species including bats and barn owls.

Sophie Churchill, National Forest Company Chief Executive said: “This new wood is just what The National Forest is about – right by where people live and yet an oasis for walking and tranquillity. I am sure that local residents will love it and look after it and that David Wilson Homes will continue its excellent contribution to this special place.”
