Find Firewood and Wood Products in The National Forest

Are you looking for firewood, new fencing or a professional tree surgeon? The National Forest Company (NFC) has launched a new online Marketplace to help promote timber products and services within and around The National Forest.

Anyone can post adverts relating to timber wanted or for sale (either wood fuel or entire trees), advertise services or equipment for hire or sale, completely free of charge.

People can browse the marketplace to track down logs for their wood burning stoves, hobby woodworkers can find timber for their craft and foresters or other timber workers can sell their goods and services.

Over 8 million trees have been planted since the early 1990s throughout the 200 square mile National Forest, and many of the young woodlands are now ready for thinning, an essential part of good woodland management.

Charles Robinson, Woodland Management Officer for the NFC, explained: “Managing the woodlands has always been part of the vision in creating The National Forest. Even if a woodland is primarily for amenity use – that is, for people to enjoy walking in, birdwatching, having an early morning run – thinning the growing trees, and pruning and coppicing where relevant, is always beneficial to the trees and the woodland as a whole. A number of National Forest woodlands have been planted wholly or in part to provide sustainable commercial timber, but all of them will potentially produce some amount of valuable timber product.”

He continued: “By creating a woodland economy, where wood products are produced and sold, and woodland services are offered and sought within and around the Forest, we are working to help our Forest communities and improve the local economy.”

The new online Marketplace is available here.
