Wood Fair sponsor launches 'School in a Garden' competition

Friday, 19th June 2015

The sponsor of the National Forest Wood Fair has launched a drawing competition for schools within The National Forest catchment area in a bid to get them more involved in the event this August Bank Holiday.

Coalville-based Vitax, which manufactures and supplies gardening products to garden centres throughout the UK, is on the lookout to find the region’s most creative young artists.

The ‘School in a Garden’ competition has been designed to inspire children to think about their school as a garden.  Open to children in Year 1 right through to Year 4 the children have been asked to work in groups of no less than four to help bring their ideas to life.

Whether it is a flower garden, woodland, forest or even a vegetable patch, schools can enter as many groups as they like to ensure everyone has a chance to enter.

The winning group will receive £250 of gardening products to help create their garden with four runners-up receiving products to the value of £100 and £50.

“The Wood Fair is all about family fun and we wanted to bring that fun to the classroom,” says Colin Wetherley-Mein, sales manager at Vitax.

“As we move towards summer, now is the perfect time for children to explore the great outdoors.  We hope that the competition will capture the children’s imagination and we will see a whole range of brightly coloured gardens which will be put on display at the Fair.

Each shortlisted school will receive four family tickets to the National Forest Wood Fair, where the winner and runners-up will be announced on the day.  Each entry will also be on show within Vitax’s marquee at the Fair for everyone to see.

Held on Monday 31 August 2015, this is the second year that Vitax has sponsored the event.  For more information about the competition and to receive an entry form, please email:
