Edward Argar, Member of Parliament for Charnwood, met with John Everitt, Chief Executive of the National Forest Company, to discuss opportunities and future development of The National Forest as it reaches its quarter century next year.

The ancient forest of Charnwood is an important part of the wider National Forest, which covers 200 square miles extending west from Charnwood to Needwood Forest in Staffordshire.

Charnwood hosts the biggest event in The National Forest’s calendar, the National Forest Wood Fair, held at Beacon Hill on Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, where woodland businesses and leisure activities within and around the Forest are celebrated.

Around 5,000 people visit the Wood Fair each year, with over 100 exhibitors and demonstrators, including wood carvers, lumberjacks, horse loggers, tree climbing and the Forest Food Festival.

Edward Argar MP said: "The National Forest, and its work, is something we can all be immensely proud of, and it is particularly important to my constituents in Charnwood which is why it is great news that the Wood Fair is returning to our county again this year.

“There has never been a better time to get out in the fresh air and explore what The National Forest has to offer people of all ages - from activities for children, to country walks, rural activities, and a chance to learn about our woodlands and the huge contribution they make to our county and our lives."

John Everitt said: “Charnwood is an important and ancient part of our still relatively young National Forest. Our forest communities and partners in this ‘neck of the woods’ are invaluable to the progress and success of the Forest. Visitors and residents can experience all aspects of life in The National Forest at our annual Wood Fair.”

Advance tickets for the National Forest Wood Fair (including a 20% discount on the gate prices) are available online until midday Friday 28 August. Get a family day out for £20!

The National Forest Wood Fair is organised by the National Forest Company in partnership with Leicestershire County Council, and is sponsored by Vitax.
