Forest Holidays proudly supports the inaugural National Forest Timber Festival

Tuesday, 12th June 2018

Long-term supporter of the National Forest, Forest Holidays will be supporting the first Timber Festival as a principle partner.

Festival-goers will be able to join Forest Survival sessions, run by a Forest Holidays Forest Ranger to find out what it takes to survive in the great outdoors. Learn how to find the best shelter location and build it, before divining the safest places to find water and lighting a fire with modern and traditional methods. Make nettle rope and forage for wild food.

Forest Holidays was founded by the Forestry Commission more than 40 years ago and this rich heritage of creating inspirational experiences in the heart of nature is central to the business.

The company’s Support Centre is located in the heart of the National Forest in Moira and each of its ten locations across the UK are set deep in woodlands, on the edge of picturesque lochs or in bright forest meadows. Forest Holidays cabins are designed to blend into the forest environment, with locations supporting habitat enhancement and woodland creation.  Guests choose to stay with Forest Holidays for a peaceful getaway in a well-managed, ecologically diverse and quiet forest environment.

The natural environment is the essence of the Forest Holidays experience and the company recognises its responsibility to protect the forest and to inspire future generations.

Forest Holidays has supported the National Forest since 2016 by inviting guests to make a donation to plant trees when booking their holiday (with donations of over £35,000 to date). This support is helping the National Forest to achieve its target of planting a further 90,000 trees to cover 185 acres of land. Forest Holidays team members also frequently join forces with the National Forest Company to help manage local woodlands and plant trees.

Bruce McKendrick, Chief Executive Officer, Forest Holidays says: "We are proud to support Timber and entirely share its aim of connecting people more intrinsically with the natural world. Every day we see the positive and transformative impact of Britain's amazing forests on our guests and on the communities that we are a part of. This event offers an exciting opportunity to share ideas, to celebrate innovation and to come together with our National Forest partners to further support the transformation of the landscape on our doorstep and the conservation of forests for the enjoyment of everyone, now and in the future."

David Bourque, Director of Development, National Forest Company, says: "Timber promises to be an exciting weekend of forest experiences including music, comedy, early morning runs and eco-spas. We are encouraging people to enjoy more time with friends and family in the Forest by celebrating our fantastic woodlands, a perfect complement to our partnership with Forest Holidays.”
