Barhale Construction Plc is a Walsall based civil engineering company providing services to the utilities, development and transport sectors for both public and private clients. It was founded in 1985 by current Chairman, Dennis Curran. Since then, the company has grown steadily, mainly as a result of securing framework contracts with several companies. The company has an annual turnover of £140 million with over 1000 employees and is ranked a "top twenty-five" national civil engineering contractor, and the "top ten" in the water sector. Barhale has long-term framework agreements in the water and telecommunications industries and with clients including the Environment Agency and several local authorities.

In 2006 Dennis Curran launched Barhale's "Three Pillar" sustainability strategy. This requires us to focus on delivering Profitable work, whilst ensuring the Safety of our employees and those affected by our works AND protecting the Environment. Our environmental objectives focus on key elements of such as reducing waste, increasing use of recycled materials and reducing our carbon footprint. However, we also want to demonstrate our commitment to wildlife enhancement and supporting The National Forest, which happens to be close to our Head Office was the perfect opportunity to do this.

"It is fantastic to think that we are supporting an initiative where there is going to be a long lasting woodland created that will not only provide a varied habitat for wildlife to thrive but will also will give the local community something with a working value to it. This is a truly sustainable project that we are proud to be associated with".
Iain Casson, Group Environmental Manager.
