Your support makes a difference

Planting alongside traditional agriculture

The National Forest covers 200 square miles, parts of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. When the concept of the Forest was established in 1990 the land had been heavily mined, woodland cover was very low (in some places as little as 2%) and the landscape was littered with the scars of 19th century extractive industries.

Almost 25 years later, our partners and supporters have enabled a huge transformation to occur including the planting of more than 8.5 million trees. Forest cover is now at 20% and our target of a third tree cover is growing ever closer.

Of course this landscape change has brought with it massive gains for both people and wildlife and much of our work now focuses on how we can maximise these benefits.

Your dedication will support this continuing transformation and help to secure the future of the Forest for everyone.
