Nature Alive

Nature Alive is 6ha of derelict coal stocking yards, behind Aldi supermarket in Coalville, that were converted to a range of habitats and trails in 1993.  The work was funded by the Government's Derelict Land Grants and North West Leicestershire District Council.

It is a valuable nature conservation, public amenity and educational asset for the local community around Coalville. The Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust is managing the site at a deliberately low and relatively inconspicuous level, so retaining a natural and informal appearance of landscape value.  Managed as a nature reserve, Nature Alive holds a variety of habitats including mature specimen trees, trees and shrubs, ponds and open water, ditches, wildflower meadow, rough grass and hedgerows.  Bat and bird boxes and nesting rafts were installed with grant aid from the National Forest Company and Canon.
