An attractive lake that was originally part of a large estate on the outskirts of Ashby-de-la-Zouch. It is in a quiet, peaceful setting among woodland. The lake is of serpentine design and was constructed to enable to water level to be controlled for power generation for Willesley Hall, which was owned by Sir Charles Abney Hastings. The Hall has since been demolished, but the small family church, which dates from 1845, remains. The graveyard contains evidence of mediaeval settlements.
The lake is a very popular fishing spot and is open all year round, day and night. An information board shows the incredible size of some of the carp which have been caught in the lake. The lake owners operate a "put back" policy, where all fish must be returned to the lake.
A circular walk can be made by following the surfaced track part way round the lake and then follwing public footpaths.
Please keep to the footpath across the golf course.
