Visitors to woodlands during the autumn will discover trees laden with edible delights. In September and October, the number of different ripe species explodes with fungi, fruits and nuts, such as beech nuts, bramble, hawthorn berries, juniper and rosehip, ready for picking. This year apparently the horseradish is particularly good!

Dark clouds and showers did not deter the crowds at the National Forest Wood Fair on Bank Holiday Monday. Waterproofs and umbrellas only added colour to the scene and there were plenty of smiling faces through the rain!

Nature's autumn finale is coming early according to woodland experts in The National Forest. This year's exceptionally dry weather means that many leaves are already turning red and gold with their final dazzling display of colour, so the National Forest Company is urging people to get out into the woodlands and enjoy the autumn colours.
