The Woodland Trust has made improvements to Foxley Wood, one of its key woodlands in The National Forest, close to the village of Linton, in South Derbyshire. Trees have been thinned and undergrowth removed, and local users of the wood are already benefiting from the work which was carried out with assistance from the National Forest Company (NFC).

National Forest sponsor Reabrook Limited gathered saws, hammers and spades for a day out in the woods with employees and their families recently. Staff were invited to help put the finishing touches to the company's sponsored woodland at Boothorpe, a few hundred yards from the company's buildings at Moira, near Ashby de la Zouch.

Montgomery Wood offers visitors fantastic views across the River Trent to Wychnor, with stunning views of St Leonard's parish church. This 2.3ha (5.7 acre) wood has been created by local businessman Chris Montgomery who runs a landscaping business based in Burton. Chris bought the land a few years ago and decided to create the woodland under the National Forest Changing Landscapes Scheme to provide wildlife habitat, access and wood for fuel.

Two thousand visitors enjoyed the National Forest Wood Fair at Beacon Hill Country Park, Leicestershire, on Bank Holiday Monday. Despite the rain, spirits remained undampened and everyone enjoyed the quality wood products, lumberjack displays, chainsaw carvers, horse logging and tree climbing.
