The National Forest Company and its partners in the Heart of the Forest Forum have been awarded £770,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the innovative Black to Green project.

National Forest sponsor Reabrook Limited gathered saws, hammers and spades for a day out in the woods with employees and their families recently. Staff were invited to help put the finishing touches to the company's sponsored woodland at Boothorpe, a few hundred yards from the company's buildings at Moira, near Ashby de la Zouch.

Montgomery Wood offers visitors fantastic views across the River Trent to Wychnor, with stunning views of St Leonard's parish church. This 2.3ha (5.7 acre) wood has been created by local businessman Chris Montgomery who runs a landscaping business based in Burton. Chris bought the land a few years ago and decided to create the woodland under the National Forest Changing Landscapes Scheme to provide wildlife habitat, access and wood for fuel.

Two thousand visitors enjoyed the National Forest Wood Fair at Beacon Hill Country Park, Leicestershire, on Bank Holiday Monday. Despite the rain, spirits remained undampened and everyone enjoyed the quality wood products, lumberjack displays, chainsaw carvers, horse logging and tree climbing.

All tickets bought in advance attract a 20% discount on the gate prices, for this fun family day out to be held at Beacon Hill Country Park on Monday 25 August.
