All smiles at the National Forest Wood Fair

It may have been wet but it definitely wasn’t a washout at the National Forest Wood Fair at Beacon Hill Country Park on Monday. Visitors turned out in their thousands for this popular event, an annual celebration of The National Forest and all things tree and timber related.

Tree crate carpenters get to work at Reabrook event in The National Forest

National Forest sponsor Reabrook Limited gathered saws, hammers and spades for a day out in the woods with employees and their families recently. Staff were invited to help put the finishing touches to the company's sponsored woodland at Boothorpe, a few hundred yards from the company's buildings at Moira, near Ashby de la Zouch.

New Woodland Takes Root in Wychnor

Montgomery Wood offers visitors fantastic views across the River Trent to Wychnor, with stunning views of St Leonard's parish church. This 2.3ha (5.7 acre) wood has been created by local businessman Chris Montgomery who runs a landscaping business based in Burton. Chris bought the land a few years ago and decided to create the woodland under the National Forest Changing Landscapes Scheme to provide wildlife habitat, access and wood for fuel.

Urban trees bring the feeling of the Forest to housing estates within The National Forest

Almost 200 trees are being planted across urban spaces within The National Forest this month as part of the National Forest Company (NFC)’s urban tree planting programme. The trees, which stand over two metres tall, will grace parks, housing estates and allotments from Newhall to Ashby and from Measham to Ellistown.
