National Forest Company Policy on the use of Local Origin Stock
It is the policy of the National Forest Company that in schemes where nature conservation or amenity is defined as the main objective, a minimum of 80% of the total number of trees planted should be of local origin (and where there are primarily commercial objectives, 20% is sought).
To meet the objectives of this policy the use of plants of National Forest origin is required. If insufficient National Forest seed stock is available, alternative planting material should be sourced from Forestry Commission Seed Zones 402 and 403. If this is also unobtainable, stock of other UK origin may be used – sourced from the most appropriate, surrounding, seed.
