Pessall Brook Wood

Pessall Brook Wood is a 5ha site adjacent to two previous Tender Scheme winners near Coton in the Elms.  It is is planted with four discrete mixes of woodland types - broadleaves, cricket bat willow, hazel coppice and wet woodland.  The site also include 25 native black poplar, a priority species for the National Forest Biodiversity Action Plan.  Open ground adjacent to the Pessall Brook has been retained as damp grassland.

Part of the site comprises over 2,000 oak and ash planted by direct seeding by schools and the local community. Acorns and ash seeds were sown directly into the ground and, as these develop, tree guards and shelters will be placed around them to ensure their survival.
