5 reasons to Plant a Tree in the National Forest

So far we've planted more than 9 million trees in the National Forest, enhancing the landscape, creating wildlife habitats, spaces for wellbeing and recreation, all whilst providing cleaner air, improved soil quality, reduced flooding, helping to combat climate change. But we need to plant more and you can help us to reach our 10 millionth tree milestone and create a greener future by joining us at our next Plant a Tree event. Here are 5 reasons to get your wellies on, grab a spade and get planting...

Beautiful landscapes to live & visit

Who doesn’t love woodlands? 25 years ago, when the National Forest was first started, large swathes of the Midlands landscape had been left scarred by centuries of coal mining and other heavy industry. Planting trees has transformed the landscape from black to green, creating beautiful green spaces and scenic views for everyone to enjoy.

Biodiversity & conservation

Woodlands are home to numerous plant and animal species, with trees providing food, shelter, and nesting sites for a wide range of wildlife. Planting trees can help create diverse ecosystems and encourages biodiversity by creating suitable habitats for native creatures. You are contributing to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future, helping to restore natural habitats.

Therapeutic connection with nature

Planting a tree provides an opportunity to connect with nature, which has been shown to have positive effects on mental health. Being in nature can reduce anxiety, promote relaxation, and improve overall wellbeing. Think of it as a form of green therapy, offering a respite from daily stressors, reducing anxiety, and promoting a sense of peace and wellbeing.

Economic benefits

Woodlands contribute to local economies through tourism, recreational activities, and the sustainable harvest of forest products. Trees planted today can provide future generations with valuable resources, such as timber, fuelwood, and harvestable food such as apples. Planting trees is an investment in a sustainable future.

Finally - it's fun!
