Summer activities in the National Forest

Summer is a great time to connect with nature and the outdoors, and what better way than by joining a local event in the Forest this season. Whether you’re looking to brush up on your dragonfly identification, find out more about the creatures in the night's sky, something for all the family or simply to improve your connection with nature. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the exciting activities that await in the Forest this summer...

Dragonfly Walk at Rosliston Forestry Centre

Date: Tuesday, 13 & Tuesday 27 August

Time: 11am - 1pm

 A guided walk at Rosliston Forestry Centre to spot dragonflies.

Join the environment education project team for a guided walk to spot adult dragonflies after they have emerged from the pond.

No booking required. Admission is free, although donations towards wildlife surveying are welcome.

 

Gruffalo Games at Hicks Lodge

Dates: 23 July to 16 September

Enjoy some Olympic-sized excitement at Hicks Lodge this summer and embark on a quest to find hidden Gruffalo character signs and enjoy Olympic-inspired challenges on this fun family trail.

Admission is free, parking charges apply. Free parking for members.

 

Bat Walk at Sence Valley

Date: Tuesday, 13 & Thursday, 15 August

Time: 9pm

Join the Forestry England in the National Forest volunteers and rangers on a dusk stroll around Sence Valley to try and spot some of the woodland’s nocturnal residents and the habitats that support them.

Wildlife Safari at Kelham Bridge Nature Reserve

Date: Saturday, 10 August

Time: 4.30-6.30pm

The walk will be a real-life safari, uncovering the amazing wildlife at this diverse and hidden gem of a nature reserve. Free attend but donations are welcome on the day - proceeds to Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust.

 

Wildflower Walk at Bagworth Heath Wood

Time: 10am-1pm

A free guided walk led by Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust Project Officer Isabel Raval, taking a walk through Bagworth Heath Wood, learning all about the beautiful wildflowers that grow in this area.
