Autumn nature events in the National Forest

Welcome to our nature events blog! Here, we will be keeping you up to date with all the exciting events happening in the National Forest. Whether you're a wildlife enthusiast or just looking for a fun and educational family outing, there's something for everyone.

Starting off our list is the Bat Talk and Guided Walk on Wednesday, September 13 from 6.30pm until 9.30pm at Rosliston Forestry Centre. Led by the Derbyshire Bat Group, this event offers a unique opportunity to learn about bats - from where they live and what they eat, to their nocturnal hunting techniques. Make sure to book your spot in advance as spaces are limited. The event costs £5 per person, is suitable for families, with three-year-olds or younger attending for free. Moth

 

Next up is the Moth Trapping event on Tuesday, September 26 at Albert Village Lake. Led by Dave Robinsons and guest experts, this activity allows you to witness the diverse range of moths that live in the area. Meeting at 7:45pm for an 8pm start, it's a perfect evening excursion for nature enthusiasts. More information is available from enquiries@nationalforest.org

On FridaySeptember 29, join Leicestershire Bat Group for a Bat Walk at Albert Village Lake and Diana Wood. Equipped with detectors provided by the organizers, this guided walk will teach you how to listen out for bats and learn more about their nocturnal behaviour. Meet at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start, ensuring an informative and interesting nocturnal adventure. Email enquiries@nationalforest.org for more information.

Moving on to October, keep an eye out for a Fungi Walk at Snibston Colliery Park. Although the date is yet to be confirmed, this exploration of the fascinating world of fungi promises an educational and interesting experience for everyone.

Saturday, October 28 is a date to mark in your diary as it offers two exciting events. First up is a Fungi Walk at Coton Park Local Nature Reserve from 10am to 12.30pm. Led by an expert, this walk focuses on fungi identification. Please note that there is a £5 per person fee for this particular event. Email parksandgreenspaces@southderbyshire.gov.uk to book.

Another Fungi event on October 29 is taking place at Bagworth Heath Wood from 10am. Join local Fungi expert, Beverley Rhodes on a short, guided walk to learn about the various wonderful fungi. On Tuesday, October, be sure to attend the Arachnid Appreciation event at Rosliston Forestry Centre from 2pm to 4pm. Suitable for kids and adults alike, this event celebrates the fascinating world of spiders and other arachnids. More information is available from rosliston@southderbyshire.gov.uk

 

Wigeon

 

Finally, in December, we have a Winter Waterfowl event, with the exact date and location yet to be confirmed. Led by Tony Slater from Birdwatching for Beginners, this bird walk is a great opportunity to spot and learn about the different species of waterfowl that migrate to the area during the winter months.
