With half a million visitors every year, it's easy to see why Twycross Zoo is such a popular destination for family fun. It offers the chance to see some of the most amazing animals on earth in 88 acres of beautiful countryside. There are several play areas, including a huge outdoor wet play area, so you can easily spend a whole day here and enjoy meeting some amazing creatures.

Twycross Zoo is a registered charity and famous for its world renowned primate collection. It is the only place in the UK that you can see all four types of great ape - gorilla, chimpanzee, orangutan and bonobo. We are also home to the most critically endangered big cat on earth, the Amur leopard and the magnificent snow leopard, as well as over 500 other animals from almost 150 species. Here at Twycross Zoo, you can meet Asian elephants, giraffes, zebras, penguins and meerkats, plus giant tortoises, monkeys and birds.

There are opportunities to be close up to Lemurs, Lorikeets and Butterflies with our enclosed walkthrough habitats, plus in Pets Corner, your little ones can meet a whole host of animals.

On the perimeter of the zoo, we have our very own Nature Reserve, which is an important native wetlands habitat. Its 9 ponds form part of our water filtration system and you can spend time there seeing local native wildlife, with over 400 species recorded including critically endangered grey partridge and garden dark moth!

2016 will be an exciting year for Twycross Zoo, with the opening of Gibbon Forest, a grand new habitat for 4 species of gibbon. With 4 moated islands, plus a huge indoor facility, it will be a great opportunity to see and hear the gibbons as they swing and call to each other. See if you spot the difference in their calls!

Conservation and Discovery

Many animals at Twycross Zoo are part of endangered species programmes. These breeding programmes are planned approaches to prevent the extinction of species and so baby animals can often be seen here at the Zoo ¬ see how many you can spot when you visit!

Our Discovery and Learning team provide a series of talks throughout the day, so you can learn more about our animals and the role they play in Conservation. Check the timetable for details of the talks and be sure to get there early as they are very popular.

Retail and Catering

Whilst at the zoo, you can also enjoy some retail therapy, with three shops selling range of gifts, souvenirs and themed merchandise. Many of our products are Fair Trade and we only sell products that are ethically and sustainably sourced.

There are also plenty of opportunities to eat and drink, with a range of options including the Himalaya Restaurant, where you can enjoy a full meal whilst watching the Snow leopards ¬ or just visit one of the kiosks for a snack on the go.
