Summary
Set within 150 acres of beautiful gardens and woodland on the edge of the National Forest, The Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens is a unique place of remembrance, reflection and inspiration.
Created on a reclaimed mineral extraction site, the Gardens began as a vision inspired by memorial landscapes in the United States. Since planting started in 1996, they have grown into a nationally significant visitor destination, home to more than 400 memorials and sculptures that honour the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces, emergency services and civilian organisations.
Far from being solely a place of remembrance, the Gardens are also a celebration of lives lived. Across the site, stories of courage, resilience, friendship and service are told through memorials, landscapes and carefully chosen planting schemes. Visitors often describe their experience as uplifting, thought-provoking and deeply inspiring.
Nature is woven throughout the landscape, with every native tree species found in the UK represented within the grounds. Trees have been carefully selected to complement the stories told in different areas of the Gardens. From avenues honouring police officers to landscapes inspired by service in the Far East, the planting creates meaningful connections between remembrance, heritage and the natural world.
The award-winning Remembrance Centre offers exhibitions, a café, restaurant and gift shop, providing a welcoming base for visitors. Daily activities include guided walks, buggy tours, land train tours, talks and a moving Act of Remembrance. Families can also enjoy two children's play areas and a year-round programme of events and activities.
Entry to the Gardens is free, with donations welcomed to support the charity's work. Parking charges apply, with discounted rates available when booked online in advance.
Whether you're seeking a peaceful walk, a place for reflection, an opportunity to learn more about the stories behind the memorials, or simply a day out surrounded by nature, The Royal British Legion National Remembrance Gardens offers a unique and inspiring experience in the heart of the National Forest.
